The path ahead...

When I started running, I did so with the aim of getting into shape and doing a new hobby to help with football fitness. Since I've started running, I've come to realise that running is a world of fun all to itself and can be fun all on its own.
I first found running boring so I signed up to a series of runs and events which is going into 2011 and beyond. As I ran longer and longer, it became more and more fun until I've signed up to so much stuff its getting expensive and difficult to fit it all in. So here's what I've got planned so far:
  • Bluewater 10K
  • Great East Swim & Great London Swim
    • I do love swimming and swimming with a wetsuit is even more fun! You'll hear about the Great East Swim on the 11th June, so stay tuned
  • Aquathlon Series
    • 750m swim and a 5km run. This is going to be fun!
  • Tough Guy - http://www.toughguy.co.uk/
    • I've always wanted to do this and hopefully I finally will
  • Half Marathon
    • Not sure which one yet, but possibly the Kent Coast Half Marathon
  • Goofy Challenge
    • Marathon and a half challenge in the Disney World Resort in Florida. Including new year in Epcot, this is going to be epic!
That's quite a list, but I hope to add a few more events between August and October. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to let me know.

Juneathon starts tomorrow so I'm jumping in with both feet. With a 10K and two Great Swims to train for, it should be an interesting 2 months.

Richard's Juneathon

Welcome.

After the success of the 2011 Janathon, I'm back for more in the form of the 2011 Juneathon.

With 2 days to go before the start of the Juneathon I thought I'd have a recap of what's happened since the Janathon and what I hope is going to happen during and beyond the Juneathon.

So first up... What's happened since the Janathon??

Quite simply, this has been a busy 6 months. I've been to China for 2 fun-filled weeks, I've just bought a new car (no doubt there will be more on that next Saturday) and I've got a new job to start at the end of June. It wasn't planned but it seems 2011 is the year of change.

But the updates you must all be champing at the bit to hear about is... "How's the running going?" The answer to that is "brilliantly!". I've tried to keep it consistent with 3 runs a week and some sport thrown in for good measure and the results have been fantastic. I actually enjoy running now (compared to really not liking it last year) and I'm looking at how running can move me into other sports and hobbies (more on that tomorrow).

I've also learned a lot more about running over the last 6 months too. The main lesson has been that I don't have to run at a 100% pace all of the time. Running at a slower pace allows me to run further and further with each run and I'll work on my pace in 6 months or so once I've got the distance sorted. I've also learned that running can be quite expensive if you want to buy all the little accessories to make running life easier.

Tune in tomorrow for my thoughts on where the Juneathon is going to take me this year and where my running is going to take me next year
